Study Abroad and Travel Experiences
The CSD department strives to offer a short-term international experience at least once per year as an additional opportunity for self-discovery, personal growth, and learning. Through travel, students can learn about themselves, other cultures, and clinical practices in a different cultural setting.

CSD Therapy Abroad in Belize
Completing this form will serve as the first step in committing to this experience in Belize.
The CSD department at Illinois State University offers a study abroad opportunity specifically geared towards SLP graduate students and undergraduate CSD seniors. Travel with Therapy Abroad and faculty members of ISU CSD to beautiful Belize, the “jewel” of the Caribbean. This winter break program is designed for SLP graduate students and CSD undergraduate seniors to gain hands-on experience and observations through evaluation and treatment, partake in interprofessional collaboration, and develop a better understanding of global issues. You will spend 10 days (January 4, 2024 – January 13, 2024) in Belize working directly with both pediatric and adult clients in a variety of settings including private clinics and schools. Students typically receive between 10 - 12 direct contact hours in treatment and evaluation which will count towards your overall clock hours needed for graduation. Undergraduate seniors typically receive between 8-10 observation hours in addition to 2-3 direct contact hours. This is an excellent opportunity for group travel with faculty-led programs that are structured and designed exclusively for professional experiences in speech-language pathology.
