Biography

Dr. Jean Sawyer (she, her) is a professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. She earned her doctorate at the University of Illinois. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in stuttering and is a consultant to speech-language pathologists who treat stuttering. She also teaches undergraduate courses in professional ​writing and speech science.

Dr. Sawyer's teaching interests are in fluency disorders, counseling, professional writing, and cultural diversity.

Research Interests & Areas

Dr. Sawyer's research interests are in fluency disorders, specifically in characteristics of stuttered speech and treatment efficacy. Her efficacy research currently centers on parent-based interventions for preschool children who stutter.
