Study Abroad and Travel Experiences

The CSD department strives to offer a short-term international experience at least once per year as an additional opportunity for self-discovery, personal growth, and learning. Through travel, students can learn about themselves, other cultures, and clinical practices in a different cultural setting.

Upcoming CSD study abroad experiences:

Illinois State University’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is offering a one-of-a-kind Therapy Abroad experience in San Pedro, Belize from January 3–10, 2026. This immersive clinical and cultural program is open exclusively to CSD graduate students (SLP and AUD) and provides the opportunity to deliver speech, language, and hearing services in schools, clinics, and community settings under professional supervision. Students will gain valuable hands-on experience while exploring global perspectives on service delivery and communication care.
Participation is capped at 14 SLP students and 5 AUD students, so early application is encouraged.

Completing this application indicates that you are committed to participating in this experience.
