National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA)

NSSLHA (National Student Speech Language Hearing Association) is a pre-professional membership association that is open to both graduate and undergraduate students who are interested in the study of communication sciences and disorders.

It is a great way to:

  • Become familiar with other students and faculty within the department.
  • Explore professional issues in the field.

Student Academy of Audiology (SAA)

The SAA is the national student organization of the American Academy of Audiology. The graduate students in the audiology doctoral program are encouraged to join this organization, which serves to provide the students with a collective voice and enhance the rights, interests and welfare of those pursuing careers in audiology. Through participation, students can get involved in activities that promote and advance the profession of audiology and provide information, education and advocacy for individuals with auditory and vestibular impairments.

Members are encouraged to take part in service projects, mentoring programs and fundraising opportunities, and gain benefit from professional networking, externship ideas, and capstone help. Plus, it’s a great way to meet fellow audiology students and build your resume! Meeting times are communicated to the members via bulletin board on the second floor of Fairchild hall. Please contact the president and/or faculty advisor with any questions or visit the Student Academy of Audiology website.

Operation Smile

Operation Smile is a registered student organization for undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) and other majors who want to learn about cleft lip/palate while participating in fundraising opportunities to provide surgical care for children.

It is a great way to:

  • Develop leadership skills and global awareness.
  • Participate in volunteer opportunities.
  • Make new friends and build a network of support.
  • Create meaningful change in the world.

Student Advisory Board (SAB)

The primary purposes of the CSD Student Advisory Board (SAB) shall be:

  • To serve as a liaison between students and department faculty members/supervisors.
  • To facilitate appropriate communication between all CSD student RSO's.
  • Furthermore, the SAB will assist with the establishment of department policies relating to these purposes. Check the SAB election rules.

Study Abroad and Travel Experiences

The CSD department strives to offer a short-term international experience at least once per year as an additional opportunity for self-discovery, personal growth, and learning. Through travel, students can learn about themselves, other cultures, and clinical practices in a different cultural setting.

🌍 Travel Dates: March 6–15, 2026
📌 Destinations: Portugal, Morocco, and Spain
🎓 Eligibility: Open to students in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders
💲 Program Fee: $4,900 (includes international airfare, ALL lodging, ALL meals, and ALL in-country travel)

Join us for a 10-day global learning experience exploring health, rehabilitation, and communication across cultures. This customized Therapy Abroad program will take students through three diverse countries, offering immersive visits to clinical, academic, and cultural sites.

  • Guided tours through Lisbon, Casablanca, Rabat, and Madrid
  • Visits to top institutions like ESSAlcoitão (Portugal), IHEPS (Morocco), and ISEP (Spain)
