The CSD department strives to offer a short-term international experience at least once per year as an additional opportunity for self-discovery, personal growth, and learning. Through travel, students can learn about themselves, other cultures, and clinical practices in a different cultural setting.

Dr. Harbers and 19 students (undergraduates and graduates) returned in May 2014 from the first CSD study abroad trip to New Zealand/Australia. Dr. Harbers and Dr. Friberg returned to Australia/New Zealand in May 2016.

Julia Tockstein created a YouTube video highlighting memorable events from a Graduate international clinical experience to Seoul.

Dr. Harbers, Dr. Friberg, & Mrs. Burns accompanied 22 undergraduates and graduates to London for 5 days (over Spring Break 2015) touring the city and outlying areas – including a side trip to Paris. While in London, the students saw the production “The curious incident of the dog in the night-time”, saw where Lionel Logue practiced speech therapy (The King’s Speech), learned about the National Health Care System in the UK and how to become a speech therapist. A medical historian shared the history of speech therapy during the Medieval, Renaissance, and Victorian eras.

Dr. Harbers, Dr. Friberg, & Mrs. Yaccuci accompanied 32 undergraduates and graduates from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders to Spain for 9 days (over Spring Break 2017) touring Barcelona, Grenada, Costa del Sol, Seville, and Madrid – including a side trip to Gibraltar. While in Spain, students were encouraged to practice their Spanish language skills and learn about local art, architecture, and cuisine. They also visited with a speech therapist working in Madrid to learnabout professional practice in Spain.
